Campaign Update and some thougths on The Old World
The Campaign so Far
The vaults campaign started in the summer of the imperial year 2491.
Early on the the undead marched out of the Blighted Marshes and captured the town of Udolpho sending refugees, lead by Lady Angelica, fleeing east through the mountains where they and forces from nearby Ravola fought battles with expanding Skaven,
After Udolpho, the necromancer Xebulon lead his forces south to envelope Miragliano, but was stopped by the defenders on the road north.
To the south Norse raiders, lead by a Tzeench sorcerer named Valac and a Nurgle sorcerer named Gamygyn landed near Viadaza and proceeded to ravage the countryside. The forces of Viadaza marched out, but after some of their ogre mercenaries betrayed them they were badly defeated, though the captured the sorcerer Gamygyn. Gamygyn was later to escape into the forests to the east.
Where we stand now
In the north the undead and, their as of yet unseen, leader gather to the west of Miragliano and prepare for the attack.
The Skaven continue to expand through the mountains and the forces of Ravola pull back, while the survivors of Udolpho look for aid to help avenge themselves against the ratman, and eventually retake their home from the undead.
The Tzeench Sorcerer Valac continues his rampage around Viadaza. While his former ally Gamygyn the Nurgle sorcerer has split from him and is setting up his own cult in the forests to the east.
Rumors abound that both the Orcs and Dwarfs are mustering.

Finally a thought on “Warhammer, The Old World.”
It
has been some time since Old World was released. I have played some
games of it and generally it seems to be a step down from 8th
or indeed any other edition of Warhammer I have played. Most editions
have their good points and bad points and 8th
did not start well. But over time, especially after Games Workshop
stopped releasing new content it seemed to work well.
Except
for major balancing issues, which are common across all editions at
first, and ignoring the fact that there will not be any more rules for
many of the main Warhammer races, Old Worlds biggest problem is that
it is just not very fun. Many of the fun random elements and the
poker/resource game that was magic have been cut away to just a
dice-off.
The only good point for Old World was that it could
attract some new players, but as I play in Japan and there are no
Japanese language rules as off yet, most Japanese players are still
using 8th,
which had full Japanese language rules.
We will probably continue to use 8th edition rules, with army lists from “The Warhammer Armies Project” which are wonderful.
